Bad Philosophy as a Cause of Psychosis
CHAPTER 10 - CONCLUSION
I am an old man now. I only have a wasted life to look back on. I now wish that my fellow men might learn something useful from my failures. The effects of the psychosis my maleducation led to, spoiled the wonderful prospects which I seemed to have in front of me when I was a kid in grade school.
Up until the age of, roughly, twelve I was very precocious. I learned to speak English in just nine months in Kindergarten. I learned the essentials of reading English in first grade. I was a straight A student in fourth through sixth grade. Already at the age of ten I dreamed of becoming a scientist when I grew up. The heroes I looked up to, were such physicists as Einstein and Newton. My favourite TV program during the late sixties was Star Trek. I even went to the ludicrous extreme of emulating Leonard Nimoy´s character Mr. Spock (I tried hard never to laugh for an entire week - and then I gave up! Can you believe that?) - because I made the mistake of taking him as being a paragon of rationality!
Unfortunately, my success in grade school set me up for a catastrophe. My parents wanted the best for me. So – they decided to send me to one of those allegedly top-of-the-line, premium-quality private prep schools which they had read about. The problem was that my parents had no inkling about just exactly what a high-quality education is supposed to consist of. For – they had nada knowledge of rational philosophy. “High-quality education” was a black box for them. Their definition of “high-quality education” was: “Whatever education happens to be provided by those schools which `everyone who matters´ agree on are `high-quality´".
My parents acquired a book which contained a long list of the private prep schools in America at the time, along with evaluations of their “quality”. I believe that my parents just took the book´s evaluations of the prep schools on faith. Well – there was an element of truth in the book´s evaluations of the prep schools. The “high-quality” prep schools were in fact better than the public schools – regarding the “efficiency” with which they taught whatever it was that they happened to teach.
Unfortunately – what the prep schools happened to teach their students was intellectual poison – not intellectual nourishment. Therefore, the fact that these prep schools were in fact “high-quality” meant that they were especially good at the fine art of filling their students´ minds with toxic falsehoods and sophisms – and not with genuine, useful knowledge. The prep schools “dared to be false”! (Here I am paraphrasing Milton Academy´s oh-so-proud school motto.)
The prep school which my parents sent me to, Milton Academy, played a cruel trick on them – and on me. My parents took it for granted that Milton Academy was a genuine, bona fide educational institution. My parents were too innocent and too naïve to conceive of the enormity of the fraud which was being perpetrated by Milton Academy. Milton claimed to be an “educational” institution which was dedicated to developing and growing their students´ minds. But, in fact, they were dedicated to the task of undercutting and destroying their students´ minds. Their reputation for being a top-notch bastion of secondary education was simply a Big Lie! The polar opposite of the truth!
I spent only slightly more than two years at Milton Academy. But two years of that academy´s mind-mangling was enough to wreck my psychology for good. By the time I finally worked up the courage to flee from Milton Academy, at the beginning of tenth grade – I had become suicidal. Milton Academy destroyed my psychological health with their teaching of such toxic ideas as altruism, egalitarianism, subjectivism - and, especially, nihilism. My parents´ decision to send me to that elite prep school destroyed the rest of my life. For – the psychosis which I subsequently developed at the age of eighteen left me with a permanently crippled mind.
I did recover from my psychosis. But my mind was never the same again after the psychosis. I could not concentrate decently (on things “out there in reality”, that is) after the psychosis. I have spent the rest of my life – from the age of 19 up until today – being equipped with a severe absent-mindedness. My mind has been continually “drawn” from focusing on reality out there into focusing instead on useless daydreams inside my own consciousness. I have tried and tried to kick my bad habit of extreme introversion/perpetual daydreaming – but without any success.
As a result of my mental handicaps, I have been obliged by necessity to work as a blue-collar unskilled worker for a little more than forty long years – from 1976 through 2019. And - during all those years that I was toiling away at manual work in factories – I was, unknown to my employers, “entertaining myself” with the weird, bizarre fantasies which I relate in loving detail in Chapters 5,6 and 7 of this book. At the very same time that I was working! (I am sorry - but it seemed that I just couldn´t help myself. But at least my employers were satisfied with the work I did for them.)
Now (at the time of writing, i.e. February 2026) I am 71 years old. And what have I accomplished in my life? Well, I have in fact achieved my own happiness, at least. And that is what really counts. But I have had nada major existential success. I live today in a humble rental apartment. I am childless. I have only meagre savings. And my only platform for speaking out to set things in the world aright is this obscure website of mine. So I have not contributed anything much at all to the welfare of my fellow men. I myself perceive my life as being one great, big, enormous missed opportunity!
When I was a boy back in the 1960s I dreamed of great, wonderful things ahead of me. I felt that I lived in a sunlit universe up until that fateful decision to attend that prestigous prep school, Milton Academy. I nursed the ambition of becoming a scientist when I grew up.
I wound up becoming an unskilled labourer instead. For more details concerning all those wasted opportunities in my life – see my future book “Autobiography of a Wasted Life”- For details on the causation of my wasted life see the first nine chapters of this book “Bad Philosophy as a Cause of Psychosis”.
Here is the one crucial lesson which my website is supposed to convey to my readers:
The modern educational system in the West perpetrates an enormous and tragic waste on the future lives of multitudes of innocent children. I am not the only one!
America, and the rest of the world also, needs Ayn Rand and her wonderful philosophy of Objectivism more than ever!
